Procedure Overview
This standard operating procedure describes at a high level how to manually create a Wave and to assign Process Areas and Objects in the Stewardship Tier.
The procedure is a high-level document designed to guide the user on best practice. For more detailed information consult the online help.
Dependencies
This procedure is dependent upon the following procedures:
- SYN010 – Create Object
- SYN020 – Create Process Area
- SYN290 – Create Target Extract Data Source Registry
- SYN280 – Create Migration Object Data Source Registry
Who Performs this Procedure?
Typically, this procedure is performed by someone administering the ADM Platform.
Users assigned the following roles would typically have access:
- Migration Developer Advanced
Procedure Steps
- Navigate to Advanced Data Migration > Console > Waves.
- Click the Add button. Your new entry will appear in the Horizontal View.
- Populate the fields:
- Name—Required—Populate a meaningful name for your wave. A Wave is a self-contained entity within the Stewardship Tier. Typically, a Wave should be for one particular target system/project phase. Value mapping for example is Wave specific.
- Description—Required—Enter a meaningful description that informs others of purpose of the Wave.
- Once completed click Save. The Vertical View displays.
- Populate the fields:
- Target System - Required - Select the target system from the drop-down list. This should be the development environment where the latest configuration can be downloaded from.
- Client - Required - Populate the client for the Target System Development Environment.
- Language - Required - Populate the language required for Target Check Table Descriptions.
- Start Date - Required - Populate the intended Start Date of the project Wave
- End Date - Required - Populate the intended End Date of the project Wave
- Once completed click Save. The wave is now created.
Assign Process Area to Wave
- Click the Process Areas button on the newly created Wave. In the child page (Wave : Process Areas) press the Add button to add a Process Area.
- Populate the fields:
- Process Area ID - Required – Select a Process Area from the drop-down list.
- Active - Required – Leave the default ‘Checked’ setting.
- Comment – Optional – Populate with further descriptive information if required.
- Press the Save button
This will open the record in its Vertical View.
- Populate the fields on Basic Data tab:
- Target System Data Source ID - Required – The Target System Data Source is defaulted from the Wave. This value can be used or alternatively, it can be changed to the initial Target System Data Source into which data will be loaded. This field is used by Autogen to determine the data source that the Target System Database validation reports will be created against.
- Data Source ID – Required - Select the default Migration Object Database that should be used for all Objects assigned to the Process Area. Note: It Is recommended that there is a 1:1 relationship between Wave / Process Area and Migration Object Database.
- Construction WebApp ID – Required – Leave the default value unless a custom webapp has been specifically created for the Wave.
- Construction Source Data Source - Required – Leave the default value unless a custom webapp has been specifically created for the Wave.
- Comment – Optional – Populate with further descriptive information if required.
5. Press the Save button.
The Process Area has now been assigned to Wave.
Assign Object to Wave / Process Area
- Click the Objects button on the newly assigned Process Area.
This will open up a new page (Wave : Process Areas). In the child page (Process Area : Object) .
2. Click the Add button to add an Object.
3. Populate the fields:
- Object ID - Required – Select a Process Area from the drop-down list.
- Priority - Required – Enter a number that reflects the sequence in which the Object is processed in relation to other Objects in the Wave. This priority drives the sequence in which the Objects are displayed in other areas of the tool and helps planning and execution activities.
- Owner – Recommended – Select the project team member who will have overall responsibility for the progress and status of the Object.
- Active – Required – Leave the default ‘Checked’ setting.
- Comment – Optional – Populate with further descriptive information if required.
4. Click the Save button.
This will open the record in its Vertical view.
5. Populate the fields on the General tab:
- Object ID - Required
- Data Source ID – Required - Select the Migration Object Database that should be used for the Object. The value assigned to the Process Area will be defaulted.
- Report Cache Data Source ID – Required – Select the Migration Object Database that should be used for the Object's error aggregation tables/data. For performance purposes, it’s recommended that a corresponding Cache database is created for each Migration Object Database.
- Comment – Optional – Populate with further descriptive information if required.
- ERP Instance – Optional – Recommended to leave blank.
- ERP Client – Optional – Recommended to leave blank.
- ERP Database – Optional – Recommended to leave blank.
- Data Services – Optional – Recommended to leave blank.
- Data Services Optional – Optional – Recommended to leave blank

6. Click the Save button.
