After installation of the Data Workbench, you may recieve the message "Unable to connect to the QAS Service. Please ensure that it is running." when you attempt to log in for the first time.
This problem is caused by the fact that a critical Windows service has not started successfully. To resolve this issue, please follow these steps:

Go to the Windows Control Panel.

Open up Administrative Tools.

Double click the Services icon. (A screen similar to Figure 1 should be displayed)

Locate the service named "Quadrate Authentication Service".

Ensure the status of this service is "Running". Right-click the service entry and select "Start" if the status is not running.

Ensure the Startup Type of this service is set to "Automatic". Right click the service, select properties (A screen similar to Figure 2 should be shown) and set the Startup type drop down to "Automatic".

Follow steps 4 - 6 for the service named "Quadrate Execution Engine"
