Summary: | In Microsoft SQL Server, how to create multiple publishers for a single remote distributor |
When using Microsoft SQL Server as a source database for transactional replications, you need to create a publisher/distributor pair. In most circumstances, it is sufficient to complete this operation via the Source Connection wizard in the Syniti DR/DBMoto Management Center. The process is automated and creates a single publisher/distributor pair. Occasionally, customers need to adjust the default publisher/distributor setup. The steps below show how to create multiple publishers for a single remote distributor in a Microsoft SQL Server environment.
- Use the Syniti DR/DBMoto Management Center Add Source Connection wizard to create the first publisher and remote distributor.
- Using the SQL Server Management Studio, access your remote distributor server.
- In the Object Explorer, locate the Replication item and expand it to display Local Publications.
- Select Local Publications and from the right mouse button menu choose Distributor Properties.
- In the Distributor Properties dialog, change the Administrative link password to match the password you are currently using for the Syniti DR/DBMoto user.
- Click OK to complete the operation.
- Access the second Microsoft SQL Server.
- In the Object Explorer, locate the Replication item and expand it to display Local Publications.
- Select Local Publications and from the right mouse button menu choose New Publication.
- In the Publications Wizard, select ‘Use the Following Server as the Distributor Server’ and click Add.
- The prompt forces you to connect to your remote distributor. Once that is complete, click ‘Finish.’
- In SQL Server Management Studio, for each additional publication server, right-click on Local Publication and select ‘Publisher Properties.’
- Under General, change the Adminsitrative Link password to the same password as specified on your distributor.
- In the Syniti DR/DBMoto Management Center, add a new Source Connection (New Publication Servers) specifying the publication just set up via the ‘New Publication’ Wizard in SQL Server Management Studio.
If the new publication is connected correctly to the remote distributor in SQL Server Management Studio, when specifying Transaction Log Reading in Syniti DR/DBMoto’s Management Center interface, you should automatically see the publisher and remote distributor indicated in the Transaction Log Reading Dialog.
