Framework version: various
Application: DataGarage/Collect
Description of the problem:
SSIS is not installed on the servers, but still, creation and execution of import packages in Collect for a DB2 type datasource is successful. The question is, is SSIS neccessary for creating and refreshing Collect imports? For what scenarios would SSIS be needed?
Resolution:
SSIS is used when one of the other extraction methods doesn't work or doesn't perform adequately. It's nice to have SSIS as an option because some sources perform better with SSIS or can import non-standard characters more successfully. However, SSIS is not required for Collect/DataGarage to install and function. It is worth letting the business know that you might need to request it if there are problems with other methods as this requires an additional SQL Server license.
