In the 3 months since launching Data Insiders, we’ve been surprised and delighted by the quality of content contributed by our members. In an effort to recognize those whose contributions truly go above and beyond, we’ve established a Most Valuable Contributor (“MVC”) award. Our first MVC recipient, Victor Gazquez, has been a consultant with BackOffice for a little more than 2 years. His [How To] Advanced View Builder article is currently our highest ranked content in the community. We had a short interview with Victor about his thoughts about the community, the state of data governance, and his receiving the award.
First off, Victor, congratulations on receiving the first ever Data Insiders Most Valuable Contributor award!
Many thanks! It has been a great surprise; it is always a pleasure to receive an award.

You've been a Consultant at BackOffice for a little over two years now. Could you tell us a little bit about what brought you here, and where you were before?
Yes you’re right, it has been a frenetic two years. I was working at HCL before, also as Data Migration Consultant. Even though I was not looking for a change, I came across our DSP solution and was so impressed by this powerful tool that I was determined to work for BOA. A few months later, it became true ;)
You’re based out of the EUAF region - What are your thoughts on the upcoming General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR)?
I would like to point out that the GDPR regulation applies not only within the EU. All businesses that process data of EU residents, regardless the location, need to be compliant by May 2018.
It is going to be a lot work, and even though it will require some changes in many companies, I think it is needed. Data protection is a priority nowadays, and this new regulation brings improvements such as the broader definition of data, new requirements for data portability, and restrictions on internal transfers.

Thus far, we are thoroughly impressed with the level of detail and effort you have put in each of your posts. What is your #1 hope for the community long term?
Thanks, I am really glad the community finds my posts interesting.
About my #1 hope, this is an interesting question. We have just launched this new community and we need to see how evolves, especially what is going to be the customer’s implementation of it. For now, I want to support our consultants by answering the most common questions that I receive, doing deep analysis, covering real world scenarios and proposing best practices.
In the long term, I think it may be a good place to provide some informal support to all clients, especially to those who are running their business using DSP without a BOA consultant on site.
You've worked on several projects. What would you consider the most valuable function of our product, and why?
It’s difficult to identify only one. I’ve worked with clients who needed custom development, and others who were just using dspMigrate. In both scenarios, the clients highlighted that the data can now be managed in a controlled way, reduced time and effort, and increased the quality and accuracy in a consistent and organizational framework.
I worked on projects in the past (pre BOA times) where the use of spreadsheets, the creation of LSMWs, and tracking the project by just using documents in a repository is incomparable to our structured, documented, and reusable solution. In addition, we also provide custom development to accommodate client’s specific needs.

Excellent. Now in your free time - assuming that you have any - what do you like to do?
I spend some time creating content for Data Insiders, but beside work, as I’m a sporty person, I try to do one hour a day of exercise, either running, gym or football. I also like motorsports, I regularly follow them and I do not miss the chance if I can assist to the event. When I have more time I try to go to the mountain to snowboard or to the beach for surfing, but what I really love is traveling!
The rest of the time, especially when I am at the hotel over the weekdays, I watch some movies and TV shows on Netflix!
