Summary: | Instructions on creating and stopping a trace. |
You can create traces for Ritmo products using the Toolbox. However, the instructions depend on the version of software you are using. Here are guidelines for the most recent versions of Ritmo. (See below for earlier versions of Ritmo.)
Setting Up a Trace in the Toolbox
When you start a trace from the toolbox, the trace is stopped when you exit the toolbox. This prevents you from accidentally running the trace with Ritmo at all times, thereby impacting performance and building up a huge trace file.
-
Double-click the Trace icon in the tool tree to display the Trace Settings dialog.
-
Select Enable Trace.
-
Specify a trace file name and path, using the Browse button, or leave the default value. This name can only be changed when there are no consumers using DB2.
-
Select trace file options to manage file size.
-
Click OK to save your selections and close the Trace Settings dialog.
-
The right pane updates to show that the Detailed Trace has been activated, by displaying a green triangle icon instead of a red square icon.
Starting and Stopping a Trace in the Toolbox
You can start and stop a trace using the right mouse button menu in the Toolbox's right pane.
-
Select the trace in the left window pane.
The trace is displayed in the right window pane. -
Select the trace in the right pane.
-
From the right mouse button menu, choose Start to enable the trace or stop to disable the trace.
The trace icon updates to showwhen enabled and
when disabled.
The trace ends in one of the following cases:
-
When trace mode is disabled from the toolbox, the trace ends the first time a data source object is instantiated or released.
-
When the application utilizing the provider is no longer active and Ritmo/i is no longer in memory.
-
When the toolbox is closed.
Traces for Earlier Versions of Ritmo
In earlier versions of Ritmo, you can create separate high level and low level traces for Ritmo products using the Toolbox.
Activating a High Level Trace
- Double-click the Trace icon in the tool tree to display the Trace Settings dialog.
- Select Enable High Level Trace.
- Specify a trace file name and path, using the Browse button, or leave the default value. This name can only be changed when there are no consumers using DB2.
- Click OK to save your selections and close the Trace Settings dialog.
- The right pane updates to show that the High Level trace has been activated, by displaying a triangle icon instead of a square icon.
Activating a Low Level Trace
- Double-click the Trace icon in the tool tree to display the Trace Settings dialog.
- Select Enable Low Level Trace.
- Specify a trace file name and path, using the Browse button, or leave the default value. This name can only be changed when there are no consumers using DB2.
- Click OK to save your selections and close the Trace Settings dialog.
- The right pane updates to show that the Low Level trace has been activated, by displaying a triangle icon instead of a square icon.
The Trace ends in one of the following cases:
- When high level trace mode is disabled from the toolbox, the trace ends the first time a data source object is instantiated or released.
- When the application utilizing the provider is no longer active and Ritmo for DB2 is no longer in memory.
- When the toolbox is closed.
Starting or Stopping Traces in the Toolbox’s Right Pane
You may also start and stop a low-level trace or a high-level trace by accessing the contextual menu in the Toolbox's right pane.
- Click the Trace icon in the left window pane.
- The right window pane will display the Path Trace and Level.
- Select the line for the type of trace level you'd like to Start/Stop, and right-click to view the contextual menu.
- The red "Stop" icon will turn into a green "Go" icon.
