September’s Most Valuable Contributor earns praise for not only his written contributions to the community, but also his insistence upon leveraging existing knowledge sources to enable more positive outcomes for community members. “Why are we not sharing the Q&A from cConnect [an internal Q&A portal for BackOffice consultants] with the Data Insiders community?” he challenged in our Q2 review, “Surely our community members face many of these same issues.” As a result of his advocacy, content from our internal consultant portal will be imported to the community beginning in Q4.

Congrats Michael, for being recognized as September’s Most Valuable Contributor!
Thanks, I enjoy creating content. I hope it helps our consultants, and ultimately our customers to be successful with our products.
Your profile explains you’re a Solution Architect at BackOffice Associates. Could you explain to the community a little of what that entails?
I work in a team that is responsible for creating product solutions that enhance the core BackOffice products, for example Information Governance Universal Connect, Impact and Lineage, and the hierarchy control. I help to design, build, document and educate our global teams on these solutions. We also investigate new ways to integrate our products with new technology and partner products. My job requires plenty of research, reading a lot of documentation, and diligence.
You authored much of the documentation for one of BackOffice’s newest product offerings, Information Governance Universal Connect (IGUC). Could you share some of the unique advantages of this new offering?
Information Governance Universal Connect is the recommended approach to connect cloud systems to our platform. It has many prebuilt application and technology connectors that allow users to easily connect to numerous systems without coding. It is secure, requires only a small on-premise agent, and is easily accessible via a browser. Projects can be up and running quickly with IGUC.
You previously worked at SAP as a HANA Product Specialist. What recommendations can you give our community members who are considering migrating to S/4HANA?
Firstly, don’t think of HANA as simply a fast database, it’s a data platform with many features for advanced data processing on transactional data, it is also fast! Secondly, be prepared to learn and apply new technical skills if you want to take advantage of the platform. Lastly, to reduce risk, engage an experienced partner – BackOffice!
Speaking of your previous role, what brought you to BackOffice after 8 years at SAP?
SAP is a good employer and I enjoyed working there, but I was looking for a new challenge. I had previously worked with the Entota team (who were purchased by BackOffice) and had kept in contact with Clive Bellmore, Jon Green, Ian Hill and others, so when the opportunity came up to work at BackOffice, I didn’t hesitate. BackOffice has a great team and an exciting future.
OK, now on a lighter note… I hear you’re something of a petrol head. Any fun exploits to share?
If something has wheels and an engine, it interests me! I race dirt bikes, and ride most weekends. It’s a tough sport, but I have a few trophies. When I’m not on 2 wheels I do like driving a certain German automobile, and I’ve done a few track days. I recently drove on an Indy circuit in the US, it was fantastic!
