Product: | Syniti Data Replication (Syniti DR, fka DBMoto) |
Version: | All |
ID: | 1644 |
Summary: | When using Multiple Syniti DR/DBMoto Installations with a single IBM i, iSeries or AS/400, you need to set up separate temporary libraries for each Syniti DR/DBMoto installation |
NOTE: The information below applies only if you are planning to perform Mirroring or Synchronization replications with IBM Db2 for i as a source database.
If your environment consists of more than one Syniti DR/DBMoto installation running replications with a single IBM i (iSeries/AS400) as a source connection for mirroring or synchronization, you need to set up separate temporary libraries for each Syniti DR/DBMoto installation to avoid conflicts during replication.
When you set up a connection for mirroring or synchronization from IBM Db2 for i, you create a library with the default name DBMOTOLIB on the IBM i system. This library contains a program needed by Syniti DR/DBMoto and serves as a temporary library for Syniti DR/DBMoto operations. If you create a connection to the same IBM i system from a different installation of Syniti DR/DBMoto, by default it will use the same DBMOTOLIB as a temporary library. This can cause conflicts during replication as temporary files are created and deleted by both installations of Syniti DR/DBMoto.
Modify the temporary library for your second and subsequent installations of Syniti DR/DBMoto as follows:
During Connection Setup ( DBMoto versions up to and including 9.0.x)
If you have not yet created a connection for the IBM i system, you can modify the temporary library in the Source Connection wizard.
- In the DBMoto Metadata Explorer, expand the metadata node to view the Sources and Targets nodes.
- Select the Sources node.
- From the right mouse button menu, choose Add New Connection.
- In the Source Connection wizard, follow steps to add a connection string and test the connection to the database.
- For DBMoto versions up to 9.5, in the Setup Info screen, check the Use Transactional Replication option. For Syniti DR/DBMoto 9.5 and above, in the Enable Transactional Replication wizard, choose the appropriate log setting.
- In the Library Name field, the default value DBMOTOLIB is supplied. Modify this value to supply a different library name. This is the name of the library that will be created on the Db2 system. The setup process will install a program to be used by Syniti DR/DBMoto and provide a library to contain temporary Syniti DR/DBMoto files.
- For DBMoto versions up to 9.5, click Verify first to see if the library that DBMoto will use (specified in Library Name) is already installed on the server. (Syniti DR/DBMoto 9.5 and above versions perform the verification automatically in the Enable Transactional Replication wizard.) Depending on the results of this operation, either the Install or Remove buttons will become active. Click Install to create the library on the Db2 system. If the library already exists and it is used by another installation of Syniti DR/DBMoto, enter a different name in the Library Name field above.
- Complete the Enable Transactional Replication wizard/Source Connection wizard.
This process will create a library on the IBM i system to contain the program used by Syniti DR/DBMoto and any temporary files that Syniti DR/DBMoto needs.
After Connection Setup
If you have already created a connection to the IBM i system, you can modify the temporary library in the Connection Properties.
- In the Metadata Explorer, expand the tree to show a source, target or Metadata connection. Select the connection. From the right mouse button menu, choose Connection Properties.
- In the Connection Properties dialog, scroll to the Transaction Log Type field.
- Click on the value i/As400.
- Click on the button shown at the right side of the field to open the Setup Info dialog.
- In the Setup Info dialog, modify the Library Name field to specify a library that is not used by any other Syniti DR/DBMoto installation. This setup process will install a program to be used by Syniti DR/DBMoto and provide a library to contain temporary Syniti DR/DBMoto files.
- Click Verify to ensure that the library is not already in use.
- Click Install to set up the library on the IBM i system.
This process will create a library on the IBM i system to contain the program used by Syniti DR/DBMoto and any temporary files that Syniti DR/DBMoto needs.
