You can create both global and low-level traces using the Toolbox.
Creating a Global Trace
- Exit from the application you want to trace.
- Open HiT Toolbox from the Start menu.
- On the left hand side, you will see a folder labeled “Trace”. Open the Traces folder and double click on Global Trace.
- HiT ODBC: Check Activate Global Trace; HiT OLEDB: Select 1-Trace
- Use the default Trace FileName or insert a file name.
- Click on OK
- Please leave HiT Toolbox running. If Toolbox is closed, the trace will terminate before having captured the data.
- Start the application you want to trace
- Run the query you want to trace
- Switch off <instructions below> the trace
Stopping a Global Trace
- Open Traces and double-click on Global Trace.
- HiT ODBC: Uncheck ‘Activate Single DSN Trace’; HiT OLEDB: Select 0-No Trace.
- Click on OK.
- Exit HiT Toolbox.
Creating a Low Level Trace
- Exit from the application you want to trace.
- Open HiT Toolbox from the Start menu.
- Open Traces and double-click on Low Level Traces.
- Check Activate Communication Trace and Activate ODBS Trace.
- Use the default Trace FileName or insert a file name.
- Click on OK.
- Please leave HiT Toolbox running. If Toolbox is closed, the trace will terminate before capturing the data.
- Start the application you want to trace.
- Run the query you want to trace.
- Switch off <instructions below> the trace.
Stopping a Low Level Trace
- Open Traces and double-click on ‘Low Level Trace’
- Uncheck ‘Activate Communication Trace’ and ‘Activate ODBS Trace’.
- Click on OK.
- Exit HiT Toolbox.
